Courses & Credits

The purpose of this course is to teach students how to evaluate, analyze, and use historic places as primary historical sources much as maps, diaries, newspapers, or political documents. Students will experience the rich diversity and multicultural history of the southeastern United States, especially its important coastal regions, and see first-hand how Spanish, English, Native American, and post-Revolutionary cultures are physically interrelated. They will experience the ways in which different periods and cultures produce different built environments, visit primary places that have been the scenes of uniquely important events, and talk to those who have fought to save important historic places.
