3rd Party Program!

UAB Study Abroad Program and UAB Approved!

Program Name: Summer Archaeology Program

Faculty Director: Dr. Bailey Young

Dates: 7/1/06-7/29/06

The Summer Archaeology Program in Belgium offers a unique opportunity, unduplicated by any other program anywhere, for EIU students to learn about the principles and practice of archaeology as a "crossroads discipline", bringing together the perspectives offered by the Humanities with methods of the Sciences, by working alongside other American and European students on the excavation of a medieval castle in Belgium. This four-week program has been made possible by a special Convention between EIU and the Universite Catholique de Louvain (UCL), one of Europe's oldest (founded in 1425) and distinguished institutions of higher learning, located in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, a short distance from Brussels, capital of the European Union. It is open to EIU undergraduates and graduate students, as well as guest students, with the permission of the instructor. There are no prerequisites, and no experience of archaeology or knowledge of French is expected. The principal qualifications are a strong academic record, and an interest and enthusiasm in learning about archaeology.
