I apologize for the confusion that has ensued as a result of not receiving recent communication
about the 2009 AIIE conference. I appreciate all of the patience you have shown.
As many of you are aware firsthand, travel budgets have been cut significantly or dissolved all
together as a result of university funding changes. This has resulted in a few changes to the 2009
AAIE conference plans. I received almost no response regarding the NAFSA pre-conference workshop so
this will not be pursued this year.
In addition, the following changes are being made to ensure that the 2009 AAIE meeting can attract the
largest group of attendees, while still catering to the needs of the majority of people who planned
on participating.
Updates:
- The conference has been changed to a 1 day drive-in conference
- Conference will be on Thursday, April 2 from 9:30 am-4:00 pm
- Conference will be held on the UAB campus (Hill University Center)
- Conference registration will be $30 and will include snacks & lunch
- Sessions will be a combination of targeted workshops and roundtable discussions that will focus on various facets of international student & scholar advising (catering to advisors, admissions staff, registrars, and ESL instructors) & study abroad
- Exhibitors and conference sponsors will be available during the lunch/business meeting break
An updated session proposal form is downloadable from the website- a new deadline of March 2, 2009 has been
set. Please consider that the conference will need to focus on sessions that cater to either the international
student/scholar group or the study abroad group. We appreciate the interest that some of you have shown
already to present. Please use the updated form to submit a session proposal.
An updated registration form is also attached. Deadline for registration is March 20, 2009. Payment should
be made prior to the conference. In an effort to keep costs down, no on-site registration is possible.
Thank you again for your patience and I look forward to seeing you on April 2nd in Birmingham!
